1 December 1915 – John Thornley

John Thornley was found guilty of the crime of slitting his ex-fiancée’s throat after she called off their engagement.

And what was the most damning evidence in this Cheshire crime? It was the note the spurned lover left by her body confessing to her murder. The 26-year-old was hanged alongside another prisoner at Walton Prison in Liverpool.
