Barzan Ibrahim al-Hasan al-TikritiSaddam Hussein’s half-brother and one of the ‘dirty dozen’, Ibrahim al-Hasan al-Tikriti, was executed on this day in 2007 for crimes against Iraq and for murder.

A leading figure in the Iraqi secret police, al-Tikriti is said to have been responsible for torturing and bumping off hundreds of supposedly disloyal subjects in numerous assassinations and executions.

He was found guilty of his crimes and sentenced to be hanged. Al-Tikriti was executed at 3am on 15 January 2007, and the force of the hanging apparently took his head clean off.
