9 January 1900 – Louise Masset

Louise MassetJust 8 days into the new year, Louise Josephine Masset became the first person to be executed in Britain in the 20th century.

Also known as Louisa, Masset was hanged at Newgate prison on 9 January 1900 for killing her son Manfred Louis Masset. She was 33 when she was sent to the gallows.
