19 November 1901 – Marcel Fougeron

Murderous Marcel Fougeron was Henry Pierrepoint’s first ever hanging, which took place in 1901.

Pierrepoint had just been trained and had only just been posted to Newgate when 23-year-old Fougeron was due to be executed for murdering Hermann Francis Jung.

So the 23-year-old became Pierrepoint’s first job and the start of a prolific career in hanging people that was to span many years and touch his relatives and descendants.
