11 September 1805 – William Curtis

William Curtis was hanged in 1805 at Ilchester.

He was sent to the gallows for breaking and entering.

    As an Ilchester historian I am interested in the source of your records. Whilst the William Curtis execution is well known the James Gardner execution is not. He may have been incarcerated at Ilchester gaol but executed elsewhere.

    Do you have the Gallows Five Acre records? (The hanging site just outside of Ilchester)

    We use a variety of different sources. These particular shorts are based on British Library information, such as ‘Sentences for Crimes 1816-1818’ as well as National Archives.
