18 August 1814 – Henry Youens and John Ottaway

Two men were hanged today for the same crime on this day in 1814.

Henry Youens and John Ottaway were sent to the gallows for sodomy, which was deemed a crime in 19th-century Britain. The two men were hanged at Pennenden Heath in Kent, which is said to have been an execution site since Saxon times (600AD ish).
