24 July 1923 – William Griffiths

‘I’ve done the old girl in,’ a guilty William Griffiths confessed to a copper after he’d done the deed. This arresting admission led him to the death penalty after he was up for murdering his mother.

The 57-year-old was hanged at Shrewsbury just 20 days after he’d been sentenced for slicing his 80-year-old mum’s throat.
