Married labourer Rowland Duck sentenced to death for murdering 18-year-old Nellie Pearce with whom he was having an affair.

Although he always claimed to have no knowledge of the incident, one day, seemingly out of the blue, he went round to see her, slit her throat and stashed her under the bed.
He was hanged in Pentonville Prison, aged 25.
