9 May 2001 – Clay King Smith

Clay King SmithDrugs strike again. They may have provoked a mass murderer who was executed today in 2001.

Clay King Smith was strapped to a gurney and given a lethal dose of yet more drugs for a senseless killing. His victims numbered five: his girlfriend, her cousin, the cousin’s two children (aged three and five), plus a 12-year-old girl – a friend of the family.

Back for more

Just two days before the massacre, Smith’s girlfriend had accused him of assault and battery, but she dropped the charges and moved back in with him. That move was to prove the death of her.
She was found with her relatives and her friend in their trailer, all sporting fatal bullet wounds.

Appealing

Smith was found guilty of the crime and towards the end of his stint on death row, he wrote to the family saying that he’d waive his rights to a final appeal, unless they told him otherwise. Of course they all kept quiet, not able to forgive the killer his murderous actions. And as no-one piped up, so his execution day was set.

The family also got wind of the fact that he wanted his ashes scattered over the grave of the girlfriend he’d murdered, but the family denied him as well.

Smith got his lethal injection in Arkansas, aged just 30 years old.
