18 March 2003 – Louis Jones Jnr
Louis Jones Junior attributed his killing frenzy to Post-traumatic stress after he was found guilty of murder.
The ex-army man was executed on this day in 2003 for killing Private Tracie Joy McBride – but he maintained that he was suffering from post-war depression and exposure to nerve gas after serving in the Gulf War.
Bludgeoned
But the details of the murder prevailed. He was caught after he’d abducted McBride, raped her, then taken her to a remote bridge where he’d set upon her with a tyre iron, beating her about the head until she was dead.
He admitted his crime and was put to death by lethal injection in Indiana, aged 53 following an exemplary career in the armed forces.
