James W. HutchinsAn inmate on death row in North Carolina got put down on this day in 1984.

James W. Hutchins was found guilty of killing three men – Roy Huskey, Owen Messersmith, and Pete Peterson and was sentenced to die.

The 54-year-old was put to death by lethal injection, and as a result, he was the first person to be executed in North Carolina since 1976 when the death penalty was reinstated.
