Alfred RouseLet’s call the victim John Doe, because we’ll never know who Arthur Rouse killed.

Nevertheless Rouse hanged for the crime on this day in 1931, despite the authorities not actually being able to name the murdered man.

He was found guilty of picking up a hitch hiker, then knocking him unconscious and setting his car alight with the hitchhiker inside.

Rouse paid for his unidentified crime at Bedford Prison, where he was hanged.
